Osmia attaches under your gas meter and sends usage data locally via Zigbee. The sensor detects the magnetic rotation of the meter's mechanism and converts it into precise consumption data.
Do I need an internet connection?

Yes. The sensor alone requires a Zigbee coordinator and a compatible platform like Home Assistant. The display pack, however, can show data independently without any smart home setup.
Osmia is designed for specific families of analog gas meters with magnetic pulse mechanisms, such as BK-G1,6 to BK-G6 models. Compatibility depends on your exact meter. We recommend verifying your model before purchasing.

Who We Are
We are four engineering students from UCLouvain (Belgium), passionate about IoT, embedded systems, and building connected devices that are genuinely useful.
While exploring the market, we noticed a clear gap: plenty of solutions existed for monitoring electricity consumption, but analog gas meters remained largely underserved - despite still being present in many European households.
We started by developing a Zigbee sensor capable of reading data from compatible meters and transmitting it locally, especially through Home Assistant. But we wanted to go further: to offer a more accessible, more readable, and more universal experience. That is how the idea of a dedicated display was born - to give everyone simple access to their data.
From the very beginning, one conviction has guided us: consumption data belongs to the user. That is why we designed our solution with a local and privacy-respecting approach: your measured data stays with you.
